Central laboratory

Central laboratories ensure a continuous monitoring of kaolin quality parameters and other products in the group of Sedlecký kaolin a.s. Services are also provided to external customers.

The testing activities performed in the central laboratory in Božičany are as follows:

• Chemical analysis of inorganic materials by the X-ray fluorescence analyzer Bruker AXS - S4 Pioneer
• Mineralogical diffraction analysis (XRD Bruker D8)
• Semi-quantitative non-standard analysis (70 elements)
• Technological and physical tests of ceramic raw materials and bodies in dry and fired state
• Granulometry in range 1-60 µm: sedimentation analysis by Sedigraph
• Granulometry of dry powders on the laser device RODOS (0-35 µm and 0-875 µm)
• Sieve analyses in both dry and wet state
• Whiteness/color measurement by the device Datacolor SF 600 plus: R457, CIE L*a*b*, various illuminations in accordance to CIE standard observer 2°, 10°
• Technological testing of ceramic materials and bodies:
  • rheology of suspensions / rotational viscometer Rotovisko, discharge viscometers
  • bending strength / digital apparatus with deflection capturing, the test apparatus Netzsch in accordance to DIN
  • casting rate of the deflocculated slip on plaster
  • deflocculation tests of kaolins and clays
  • drying and firing contraction / firing up to 1340 °C
  • adsorption of methylene blue, pH
  • abrasiveness of paper kaolin / Abrasionstester 5000
